The staff as a resonant entity

The staff is not a solid. Or rather, it is a solid but embodies within it a set of waveforms that are fundamentally linked to and a function of the universal unmanifested. The waveforms contained within each individual staff express the preferences of that unknown, and it is by observing the functions of those wavelengths and beginning to learn control of their expression that practitioners of Aikibojitsu begin the study of integrating themslves into the unmanifested itself. This connection to decontracted determinative principles is what allows the expression of the Pure Exponential Entity and the Hyperbolic Spiral as functions of the universe instead of arbitrary decisions on the part of the practitioner.

The connection between the staff and these underlying waveforms is precisely what allows the staff to serve as a bridge between the decontracted unknown and the Aikibojitsu practitioner. This is precisely why an apparently physical study (for example, the attempt to throw an error-free Precessional Yokomen) can produce a shift backwards along the emergent Stream of Creation, providing the practitioner with fundamental insight into the nature of existence.

One of Aikibojitsu's main distinguishing characteristics is that technique is always designed and performed with respect to the staff's fundamental vibratory waveform. Basing technical work on this waveform allows the practitioner to take advantage of rhythmic timings and accelerations that are the very definition of optimized movement. Within every staff (even before it is manipulated) multiple standing waveforms of potential exist. Thse potential waveforms individually and collectively are determinant of manifested vibration.

Staff work that takes into account the staff's preformal energy patterns will most efficiently minimize energy loss, which is key to optimization of technical movements. Work not in accord with the staff's preformal nature inevitably results in generation of unintended, spurious exponentials, and relatively low levels of manifested power and intensity.

The high intensity of Aikibojitsu strikes is not solely attributable to increased effort, but rather the result of acting in accord with the staff's resonant nature. An optimized strike would be impossible without being rooted in and aligned with the underlying waveforms implicit in the staff.

The dominant potential waveform in the staff is cosine. It is this vibratory structure that sets the fundamental resonant vibrational frequency of the staff. The staff's fundamental waveform has amplitude peaks at both ends and the middle, and amplitude minimums 1/4 of the staff's length in from either end. These amplitude minimums are called ‘nodal positions’ in Aikibojitsu and are the two main grasping points on the staff in Aikibojitsu staff work. In addition to the primary waveform, Aikibojitsu makes use of the second and the third harmonic waveforms of the staff. A nodal grasp causes the staff to vibrate freely in a harmonic standing wave associated with the harmonic. When the hand takes the staff at a nodal position of the fundamental frequency, the staff vibrates freely at the fundamental frequency. With the addition of the two ends, Aikibojitsu defines a total of eight grasping positions on the staff for staff manipulation (refer to figure on this page). These provide a precise focus for hand positions in the staff manipulations of Aikibojitsu. One might expect the middle of the staff also to be a valid grasping point, but Aikibojitsu does not define it. A grasp of the middle of the staff causes the staff to become balanced, something undesirable in Aikibojitsu staff work because it takes away the staff’s asymmetry, something essential to exponential energy development.

This can be proven by 'ringing' the staff. Grasp it lightly with one hand (staff balanced primarily on the middle finger) 1/4 of the length from the rear end, and strike the far end sharply on the ground. The staff will vibrate cleanly at its fundamental resonant frequency, as if it had been rung by ab ell. Even though the finger touches (supports) it, the staff can vibrate freely because the hand position is at one of the two cosine vibratory minimum nodal positions, of the staff's fundamental resonant frequency. These two fundamental nodal positions are of primary importance in Aikibojitsu staff work.

Attempting to ring the staff while holding the middle or either end will not work, because the potential peaks of the cosine waveform cannot be expressed unless the hand rests on a nodal position.
